The House voted overwhelmingly to raise the Federal Minimum Wage today. It’s a shame that Working Families had to wait twelve long years for Democrats to regain power before they could get a raise, but at least now they'll be able to enjoy a nice cappuchino while they're standing in the unemployment line.
Unfortunately, even with an increase in the minimum wage, there are many hard working people out there still making the bare minimum. In fact, it seems that no matter how often Democrats courageously raise the minimum wage, the percentage of workers making the minimum wage remains the same. Knowing that there are countless others out there who make more than they do only adds to their humiliation.
The solution, of course, is to keep on raising the minimum wage until all Americans are making exactly the same income - with the exception of our faithful public servants who deserve a little bit more.
But try to get the greedy cons on board with that idea.

This isn't going to degenerate into a dissertation on pie, is it? My thighs just can't take it.

Or should I say, dessertation on pie?

No, wait, I just looked it up. I was right the first time.

Fisting? Where?

Crap! I'm back down to minimum wage again? This sucks!

It makes me mad that the so-called progryssyves in the House didn't fix the biggest flaw in the current minimum wages laws; specifically, the requirement that one has to work to get the minimum wage. Personally, I could do fine getting $8 an hour for making the world a better place just by existing. For 24 hours a day, 168 hours a week, I'm not waging aggressive war against peace-loving nations, unlike the pResident. I should get paid for that!

If this had been done before my son, Casey, went to join the Army, he could have afforded to not join and he'd still be alive today! And I'd still have my family, all happy, huggy and together. Damn BusHitler for not forcing the RepubliKKKans to raise the minimum wage earlier. By not doing it, he killed my son and, in the process, my whole family!!
Posted by: SHEEHAG | January 10, 2007 at 11:18 PM
Oh puhleeze, Sheehag, everyone knows that Casey was just a moron, barely above the Terry Schiavo(as a vegetable) IQ, and that's why he ended up as a Baby KKKilling RethugliKKKan Soldier. The real fault lies not with Bush, but the American Education System...Oh wait, it is Bush's fault, as he doesn't fun the AES.
But, I support the troops!!

Even With Minimum Wage Increase, Many Americans Still Making More Than Me
Yeah, me too. I'm doing OK, tho'...
Posted by: camojack | January 11, 2007 at 12:41 AM
Oh great!! With that kind of money being dished out then Americans will start doing the jobs that Americans wouldn't previously do and my LyfePartner won't have Juan The Lawn Boy to ogle.
Posted by: Bush4Ever | January 11, 2007 at 03:21 AM
Fabulous. Make American labour even more expensive (Forward to the Conquest by Socialims!!) and then get Lou Dobbs to bitch about how American companies are sending jobs overseas - obviously the fault of Bushthugs, not socialist policies. Then, of course, there's the progressyve move to coddle every illegal bandito that can survive the boarder crossing.
"Democrat" is becoming synonymous with "retarded".

You are correct that all people should be making the exact same amount of money, and the proper exemption extended to public servants. Ideally, the entire economy would be state-run, and all business owned by the state, so really all people would naturally need to be mandated by the State to make the same money.
The real exemption for making more goes to the artists, actors and musicians who will help us usher in this new age of equality (but more equality for others). Next time Barbara Streisand, Bruce Springsteen or someone like that makes a statement regarding income disparities and "The Rich", remember that. I mean yeah, The Boss may be worth $100 million, but apparently it takes $101 million to be considered among "The Evil Rich".
And if none of my rambling makes sense, just remember: It's economics stupid!

Until they raise the minimum wage to a LIVING wage (say $375 an hour) I'm not going to work one damned day and keep collecting welfare. Take that Haliburton!
Posted by: Arbiter | January 11, 2007 at 07:33 AM
Sorry Lar but I got to disagree with you on this one. You know "From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs."
If I was a crack-whole with 10 fatherless children, I should be making 10 times as much as someone without any fatherless children.
Posted by: DonnieDarko | January 11, 2007 at 08:37 AM
I have to agree with Donnie, people with crack should make more.
Posted by: Arbiter | January 11, 2007 at 08:47 AM
When I was touring crack dens during the November election trying to rally the base I distinctly remember getting into a discussion with a pre-op trans-sexual hooker on the merits of the minimum wage. (S)he said that raising the costs of employment would put people out of work I said that it wouldn't but I phoned Howar Dean to check and it was explained that the minimum wage does not increase unemployment. I explained this to the hooker and she asked what I believe is a very good question- Why not raise the minimum wage to $300 dollars an hour in that case?

"Why not raise the minimum wage to $300 dollars an hour in that case?" -Menstrual Rainbow
Because progressyves like me are gonna hold out getting a "job" until they raise it to $375!
I'm willing to suffer by getting by on paltry welfare, food stamps, and live in Section 8 housing to prove what an enlyghtened progressyve lyberal I am.
Posted by: Arbiter | January 11, 2007 at 09:31 AM
Did anyone else watch that "speech" last night? I had a triple layer of aluminum foil on...just in case. Did you notice how Chimpy Dumbya McSmirkingArrogantFace avoided THIS most important topic and only rambled and mumbled and stumbled through a Rovian-KKKreated missive about that boring Iraq thing? Bela Pelosi and The Government of The Persyns has the "President" on the run!!!
Posted by: Bush4Ever | January 11, 2007 at 09:44 AM
As a genuine progressive I believe the minimum wage should be $72.50/hr. That way I can afford a second Escalade. This $7.25/hr is a total insult particularly in light that Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid believe it doesn't even come close to a "living wage".

When I first started working, my attidude was, "Minimum WAGE, minimum WORK." I didn't get promoted very often, but I made my point.
Posted by: Lightning Bug's Butt | January 11, 2007 at 11:57 AM
Well, I think that minimum wage should be as high as it takes to replicate the wonderful economy and lifestyle if Phrance. Also our Glorious Mother Russia.
I am, frankly, saddened and disgusted at the lack of support for a system which has elevated to many knuckle-dragging proletariat to positions which they have not earned. Merit isn't everything, y'know. there are more important things. Things like stifling the evil capitalist economy!
Viva la Chavez! Che is my hero! Workers unite.

Did I hear that the Administration completely dropped the pretense that they're not racist and started bombing African African-Americans in Somalia directly?
And I guess I'm supposed to be too distracted by this token increase in my paycheck to notice that African minorities are being exploded. Well, sir, it's going to take a whole lot more money to shut me and my SUV's bumper sticker up. "No Blood For Oil" is being replaced with a "No Blood For Whatever It Is Bush Gets From Africa" sticker as we speak.
Posted by: Fist of Etiquette | January 11, 2007 at 12:29 PM
Not to get technical, FOE, but isn't that African-American Africans? You know, an enlyghtened can't say "black" so instead of "black Africans" (as opposed to white, red or yellow Africans I suppose) its African-American Africans?
Didn't want a bunch of redneckkk kkkonservative NASKKKAR types jumping down your throat for an honest mistake.
Posted by: libmeister | January 11, 2007 at 03:01 PM
Can't wait for Nancy "I'm-worth-56-million-dollars" Pelosi and Harry "I-got-a-real-estate-deal-for-you" Reid cut the military funding for AC130s.
I mean, what do we want with an aerial engine of death like that shooting at innocent Muslim freedom fighters under the pretense of conducting an illegal and immoral war on terrorists?
Posted by: libmeister | January 11, 2007 at 03:04 PM
I imagine there will be quite a few redneckkk KKKhristian KKKonservatives here on January 27!!! I will be going there to blend in and harrass them. Anyone else going?
