Hitler Wept at the Nuremberg Trials, Too

I never really appreciated Edward Kennedy when I was growing up. He always seemed so small and feeble; dwarfed, perhaps, by the almost godlike popularity of his charismatic siblings. But in recent years, the Massachusetts Senator has come out of his shell and expanded enormously, becoming the patriarch of the Kennedy clan and in many ways the personification of the Democrat Party itself.

That’s why I took such great pleasure in seeing the ol’ Bear tear into the Chimp’s SCOTUS pick, blasting the trembling Alito for his questionable commitment to women’s rights, and for his unblinking hypocrisy.

Quite frankly I was surprised that Alito even showed up for the hearings. Far tougher men and a great deal of women have turned and fled from Ted Kennedy, and wisely so. When a supreme court nominee or Bush cabinet pick first becomes the target of his relentless barrage of well-aimed stutters and stammers, they may believe Kennedy is nothing more than a fat, belligerent drunk. After an hour of questioning, they’re certain of it. It isn’t until they get home and read the New York Times that they learn they’ve been bested by the most brilliant statesman in American history.

Should the unthinkable happen and Alito is confirmed to the Supreme Court, he’ll be required to work along side Senator Kennedy and other democrats in Congress, writing new laws and unearthing new Constitutional rights. If he and Eva Von Sniffles can’t take a little heat, then maybe they should just hop on the next bus back to Bigotopia.

This alone disqualifies Alito for a position writing laws on the Supreme Court. The committee, for three days, has invited Alito into a bit of collegial banter, but the man's a cold fish who doesn't respond to human kindness. So struck by the warmth and good humor of the progressyve Senators, Ms. Alito was reduced to tears because she has never beheld such open hearts and kinship from within the shackles of her arranged marriage. Instead, Il Duce Alito has given physical and emotional abuse. For once, Ms. Alito saw the progressyve land of milk and honey. But, like Moses, she will never enter the promised land of weekends at the Kennedy compound and intellecutal encounters with stimulating politicos in the backs of their limousines.
